Sweetened condensed milk and plenty of butter make these bars perfectly crunchy-chewy and salty-sweet.
This recipe is also super easy: just stir all the ingredients together and bake. After one bite, you’ll never want to eat a store-bought granola bar again.
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup chopped nuts (I like walnuts or almonds)
1 cup dried fruit (I like 3/4 raisins, 1/4 cranberries)
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup chocolate chips
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup (4 oz) butter, melted
1. Preheat the oven to 325° F (163° C) and get out a 9 x 13″ baking dish (recommended: pyrex or ceramic). No need to line it with parchment paper or grease it, although you can if you want to.
2. Combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
3. Pour the melted butter over the other ingredients, add the sweetened condensed milk, and stir until evenly combined.
4. Press the mixture into the baking tin and bake at 325° F for 30-35 minutes, or until it looks crispy and golden on top.
Sometimes I put the broiler on for a minute or two; make sure to set a timer if you do that, because the top burns quickly. (Although you can always just scrape off the burnt bits.)
