The answer is color harmony! Specifically, there is a system that categorizes everyone into one of twelve “color seasons.” When you find your season, you find all the colors that harmonize with your skin tone.
Eva Mendes is a true autumn (also known as warm autumn); her best colors are all warm, deep, and rich.

Unfortunately, this is a massive topic (which is why I avoided writing about it until now), so I hope this suffices as a teaser, and I will come back to this topic later 😛
